One of the hardest habits to quit is biting nails. If you started biting your nails as a child, it is most likely that you are still doing it to this day. Some people will bite their nails a lot more then they may even realize. Many try to quit, but just can not figure out a way to stay away from the bad habit they have become adapted to. To stop this difficult habit you are going to take it a few steps at a time to ease your way off of it.

Why Should You Quit Biting Them?
Biting your nails is just not a bad habit but also can be bad for your health. From the continuous biting, your nails can become very red and sore from the irritation. The cuts can open and begin to bleed and when those open sores become untreated that can lead to infections. The biting can also cause damage to your teeth, and you do not want to damage the pearly whites.
How To Quit
Here are a few things you can try to ease yourself off of the bad nail biting habit.
Step 1: Cut Them As Short As You Can
Keep your nails short. If you keep your nails short there is not going to be much nail there to bite on.
Step 2: Relax
A lot of times when you bite your nails it was triggered by something. It may be your anxiety, boredom or stress. Take some time to identify some areas of your life that may be causing you stress. Are you overloaded at work? Is there too much tension in your relationships?
Step 3: Paint them
Paint your nails because the taste of your polish will help you avoid biting them. Gel polish won’t give you as much of a bitter taste like regular polish would. This step may not be as effective as the previous one (learning to relax more), but it can help you stay accountable to your goal.
Step 4: Treat Yourself
Treat yourself to a manicure as often as you can. The prettier your nails are the more likely you will be to want to keep them looking nice so you will not be biting them all the time. So the next time you are tempted to bite your nails, think about the next party or event you will be going to, and remind yourself that you need to keep your nails looking nice for the party.
Step 5: Try
You have to think about your goal to stop biting every time you are about to raise your fingers up to your face. And don’t give up. If you try for a couple days and need to give yourself a break, make sure you keep trying again.
How To Fix Your Nails
Once you quit your bad habit you are going to want to make your nails look as if you were never a nail biter before. There are a few things you can do to your nails to make them look better than ever once you get over the bad habit.
Step 1: Do Not Get Fake Nails
Keep it natural. Putting on fake nails will ruin the top layer of your nails and will make them super weak.
Step 2: Do Not Pick Off Your Polish
Picking off your nail polish may be just as bad of a habit than biting your nails is.
Step 3: Get A Top Coat
Buy a decent top coat to apply onto your nails. This will help keep them strong. You can apply this with polish on or when you are not wearing any.
Next time you think about biting your nails, don’t. Instead, find yourself a stress ball and turn to that instead of biting.
