Body Lotion 101: Kiss Dry, Cracked Skin Goodbye For Good!

March 13, 2017 / by ASP Edit@r / Leave a Comment

Regardless of the time of year, it is dry, cracked skin is always a problem. Especially around those areas that bend often, like elbows, feet, and knees. For me, I find that during the Winter I have a harder time keeping up with my smooth skin, and it took me months and months to find a lotion that actually worked well for my skin type, did not smell awful and did not cost me my whole paycheck. I have seen lotions in the store that go for over fifty dollars, and I do not have that kind of money if even it did work miracles, so personally, I try and keep my lotion budget under twenty dollars because you can find some really fabulous lotions, that work wonders for that budget. You just have to do your research.

hydrate

Do you know how lotion actually works to help your dry, cracked skin, though? Lotion is considered a low-viscosity topical preparation that is intended for the unbroken skin to keep it moisturized and healthy. It is intended to penetrate the first layer of skin known epidermis, the outermost layer of skin. Interesting, right? So what now? How do you decide what lotion is right for you and your skin type? We all know that not every person has the same skin type so it can sometimes be difficult to find a lotion that cures all.

Sensitive Skin

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Yogurt Lotion: The fist lotion I recommend for sensitive skin is Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Yogurt Lotion, Apricot, and Honey. In this particular lotion, oatmeal is the first active ingredient and oatmeal has the capability to help restore skin’s normal pH and aid in the maintenance of skin’s moisture barrier to help prevent and protect dry skin. It will also last up to forty-eight hours, which is important if you have a busy weekend ahead of you.

Lubriderm Daily Moisture Lotion For Sensitive Skin, 16 Fl. Oz: Another great alternative for sensitive skin is Lubriderm Daily Moisture Lotion For Sensitive Skin, the biggest plus of this lotion is that it is under ten dollars, but it WORKS! I have used this one personally, and I have to say it is one of my favorite lotions. It is equipped with vitamin B5 and skin-essential moisturizers that are important for women with sensitive skin.

Average Skin

Acure Energizing Body Lotion: ACURE Energizing Body Lotion is a great option if you do not have dry skin, or if you do not have oily skin, plus it smells delicious! A big bonus of this particular lotion is that it is vegan, gluten and cruelty-free, paraben, sulfate, silicone, phthalate and synthetic fragrance-free. In today’s market women are looking for those natural products, and this is a great option, and it is under ten dollars as well! You do not have to spend the big bucks to find a lotion that works well for you and your skin type.

St. Ives Soft & Silky Body Lotion, Coconut and Orchid 21 oz: St. Ives Soft and Silky Body Lotion: St. Ives Soft and Silky Body Lotion comes in many different styles and smells, and it also on the lower end of the cost spectrum. It is made with 100% natural moisturizers (soybean oil and plant based glycerin) so you do not have to worry about putting harsh chemicals on your body.

Oily Skin

Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture: Finding lotion for oily skin can be one of the most difficult tasks because the lotion is meant to oil your skin up; however, Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture Sensitive Skin is oil-free so it will help keep your skin soft and smooth without adding extra oil onto your skin. It is very lightweight and not greasy so you will not feel slimy when you put it on your skin, and I promise you the price will not scare you away!

There are over one thousand lotions on the market today, and it is really hard to find the right one for you and your body, so make sure you do some research before you pick up just any lotion from the shelf because it is your skin and you want to make sure you take care of it. Check out some of the above options for great lotions for your skin type, I am sure you will not be disappointed. And one major pointer I can give you is to stick with lotions with all natural ingredients like the ones I suggested above. All-natural lotions are very prevalent in today’s market and they are not hard to find. You want to stay away from harsh chemicals near or around your body as much as you possibly can. They are unnecessary and will do nothing but hurt your skin and body in the long run.
