#1 Hydration

If you start using coconut oil as a skin moisturizer, you might realize that you can give up that expensive lotion you’ve been buying. Apply the oil to your skin and rub it in just as you would lotion. The saturated fats in the oil help to lock the moisture in to your skin. If you have acne-prone skin you may want to start with a small amount, to give your skin time to adapt to the new oil.

#2 Shaving Oil

Buying shaving cream at the store can get really expensive, especially in the summer if you’re shaving your legs every day and trying to make sure you get a nice soapy lather to avoid razor burn. Rub a tablespoon or two of coconut oil on your legs in the shower and you’ll be amazed by how easily your razor glides! Plus, your legs will feel silky smooth from the huge hydration boost the oil gave them in that hot shower!

#3 Makeup Remover

This is without a doubt, my favorite daily use for coconut oil! Before I found out you could use it as makeup remover, I bought bottled makeup remover and my eyes burnt every single night! I often woke up with dry eyes because the skin around my eyes was being dried out from the chemicals. Once I started using coconut oil there was no more burning or itchy, dry skin! It’s also very easy to take when you travel because you only need a tiny amount to remove even the most stubborn of waterproof mascara or eyeliner!

 #4 Deep Conditioning

Looking for a way to strengthen your hair and eliminate frizz? Set aside an hour or so of your day and try this method. I do it once a week and it has done wonders for my curly mane. Melt 3-4 tablespoons of coconut oil in the microwave. Rub the oil into your hair, focusing on the roots and the ends. Once your hair is thoroughly saturated, cover your hair with a shower cap and allow it to “marinade” for 30 minutes to a couple hours. Wash the oil out of your hair with your usual shampoo and conditioner. Depending on how thick your hair is, it may take an extra shampoo to fully wash out the oil.

#5 Lip Balm with SPF

 You’re headed to the beach and realize you forgot to pack the SPF lip balm to keep your luscious lips from getting sunburnt while you’re working on your tan. Never fear, if you packed some coconut oil you’re in great shape! Simply put a bit of that on your lips and they’ll be hydrated and protected from the sun all day long!

#6 Cuticle Maintenance

Do you have dry nail beds and cuticles? Before painting them with your favorite colored polish, rub a small amount of coconut oil thoroughly in to the cuticles to moisturize them. The oil is also very good for your fingernails and will help to strengthen them, preventing peeling and breakage.

#7 Metabolism boost

We’re gonna get nerdy here for a moment, but it’s important to know why coconut oil is good for your metabolism! Coconut oil contains high levels of Medium Chain Triglycerides which are healthy fatty acids. Your body metabolizes these types of fatty acids differently than other types of fats, which kicks your metabolism into higher gear, allowing you to burn more calories even when you’re not moving around. Of course, this isn’t a free pass to consume as many calories, but when combined with healthy eating and exercise, coconut oil can be a great step towards burning calories and trimming your waistline!

#8 Hair Detangler

This is especially good for people with thick or curly hair. Many women brush out their hair before washing it. If your hair is prone to knots and tangles, massage 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil into your hair before brushing. You’ll be amazed by how easily your brush or comb moves through your hair! Then hop in the shower and shampoo and condition as normal.

Important Tip: Make sure you always purchase organic, raw, unrefined, extra-virgin coconut oil in order to get the full benefit. Refined oil has been stripped of its health benefits and you won’t see much improvement even if you’re using it every day.
